Volunteer In Bellingham

Become a volunteer in Bellingham.

A volunteer is someone who serves in a community or for the benefit of the natural environment simply because they choose to do so.

Many people serve through a non-profit organization, sometimes referred to as "formal", but a significant number also serve less formally, either individually or as part of a group.

By definition, the worker or one who serves, does not get paid or receive compensation for services rendered. So..."Why?", you may ask!

...The Many Rewards!

"Remember there's no such thing as a small act of kindness. Every act creates a ripple with no logical end." - Scott Adams

There are many rewards for serving the community.

Altruism is the most prominent reward as it is a selfless concern for the welfare of others. It is a common motivation but never the only motivation for a sustained commitment to serve.

Quality of life in serving the community because by serving others it makes your life better! This is probably the most significant motivation for serving, mixed with a big dose of altruism! Many people feel a deep sense of peace and satisfaction by just giving back to the community that they live in for the love of it!

Some may feel a sense of duty as feeling a responsibility that comes along with citizenship.

Others have religious convictions or feel it is their "spiritual duty" to help out in the community.

Finally, just getting out and around other people is a great way to increase your social status. It is a good way to meet a lot of different people from other walks of life!

You'll find many ways to volunteer in Bellingham.

The annual Ski to Sea needs around 750 people to keep the events going and running smoothly. You can contact them through their web site at www.skitosea.com.

The Lighthouse Mission

is dedicated to helping people who have found it hard to help themselves. The Mission helps thousands of needy people in the community every month.

They are the only walk-in crisis center for homeless men, women, and children in Whatcom County, open 24 hours a day. They are not a government run entity. They don't receive no state or federal funding. They run on community volunteer help and support only.

Lighthouse Mission Ministries operates 3 homeless shelters, they cook up 3 daily community meals, have a long-term rehabilitation program for men, as well as a transitional housing program for men.

They also have a medical clinic for those with immediate medical needs. They give away food, furniture, personal needs items and clothing free of charge as available. The Lighthouse Mission also hosts Christ-centered 12-Step meetings.
