It looked a lot like this!

It looked a lot like this!

With Valentine's Day coming up, I thought I would share a wonderful romantic little hideaway in Bellingham, Wa, The Cliff House.
A hideaway, I say, because it took me awhile to find it as I wasn't at the time too familiar with all the roads in Bellingham. Now that I know where it is and been there, it was truly worth the searching and the dining experience was absolutely wonderful!
My husband and I dined at the Cliff House last Valentine's Day, 2007.
We had around a 6:30 or 7:00 reservation. We always arrive a bit early, and so we had to wait a few minutes. The place was full.
Not too long a wait and we were at our table, over looking beautiful Bellingham Bay! Even at that time the sun being down, it was such a great view!
The menu made our mouths water! There was quite a bit to choose from. We had heard from friends about the lobster tails, so we had the steak and lobster, ( I think if I remember right, the dinners were around $30 some), but being Valentine's and a special night for us, we trusted it was worth it.
When our steak and lobster dinners came our mouths dropped open. We couldn't believe our eyes. Not our first lobster experience, but truly the best! The steaks were perfect to our ordering and the lobster tails were H U G E! Paired with a Riesling, it was one of the most memorable and pleasant and satisfactory dining out we have had in Bellingham!
We highly recommend The Cliff House if you want your dining experience to be perfect and wholly worth the price you pay and the service was excellent!
Do call them for reservations to make sure you get a table! 360-734-8660

The Cliff House

I love the Cliff House Restaurant in Bellingham! It is consistently one of the absolute best and most romantic place's to dine.
I can't get over the steak and lobster dish! The lobster's are HUGE.
My husband took me there for my birthday a couple weeks ago. It was a perfect night for watching the sunset over Bellingham Bay as well!
I finally tried their whiskey crab soup for an appetiser. It was really really good! It was a creamy soup with crab and it had a subtle zing to it. I would highly recommend trying it if you haven't when you go there!

Rusting on their reputation

My wife and I went here for what we hoped would be one of our nice romantic dates. I'm sorry to say it was a mistake. We'd been here once before and weren't too impressed, but thought we'd give it another shot because the reviews tend to be good and it's just a short walk from our house. But going twice was one time too many. The ambience is more cafeteria or country club than fine dining. The formica-topped tables are packed so closely the person behind me had to move her chair before I could take my seat. It was so loud that other people's boring conversations kept poking into ours. The service was sketchy. Even the highly touted view is just a vast expanse of uninspiring dark water and a container ship tied up at the old G-P plant. How about the food? My caesar salad wasn't very tasty, we tried three wines and didn't like any of them (first time anything like that has happened), my butternut squash ravioli was pretty good but my wife didn't have anything to say about her entree. I'm glad she took care of the bill because I didn't care to see what we got charged for that experience. There are definitely better places in Bellingham for a romantic date and fine dining with your sweetie.

Thanks for your honest review. We really appreciate it as we been hearing the same lately about the Cliff House. Some places start and go and stay good while others, perhaps, like the Cliff House, end up going down the cliff?
