Supon's Thai Kitchen

by Bev
(Bellingham, WA USA)

Lord knows, we love our Thai food in Bellingham, WA! You nearly need to flip a coin (or two) to choose which one to go to on any given day. It was my son's birthday and I decided to take him out for Thai food for lunch, by accident we stumbled in to Supon's Thai Kitchen, newly located on Samish Way.
Normally, my son would choose to go to On Rice. I think it's because it's the only Asian Restaurant in Bellingham that he has been to and was sold on that and content. But being to many myself I suggested we go to Lemon Grass. To my sad surprise Lemon Grass is no longer there, but has been replaced by Supon's Thai Kitchen. I wasn't sure about it. I know it has been around as they have another location on Dupont, but I haven't tried it. I left it up to him where he'd like to go, On Rice was just a couple blocks away...He choose to be brave and curious as I and we went in to try out the new Supon's.

We were greeted and seated right away as there was only one other table (of 8) before us. The greeter must have been the owner and then our server came. They were "alright" but something about them refused to give them top notch for some reason, but it came to me...
My son and I both had our hearts set on the same dish so there would be no tasting or picking on each other's plate...darn!
We ordered Thai Tea's for drinks and they were very good! Can't really go wrong with that.
After looking at the menu we ordered a seafood plate that had only the meat and tons of yummy veggies! He got 2 stars, I got 4!
After 10-15 minutes, the first plate came-my son's...
After 5-10 minutes later, my plate came. I was proud of my son when he noticed that they "should have" brought mine first, being the lady, but they should have kept his piping hot until mine was done as well and brought them out the same time. I understand when servers have to make 2 trips, but 5-10 minutes later was really unacceptable. I also noticed that the party of 8 that was there before us were still waiting for their dishes, too.
And to top it off...they brought us no rice. What's a Thai dish without rice if you didn't order a noodle dish? We had to order rice as a separate dish and yes, of course, it cost extra. We both found that weird and we both decided we probably won't go back there. The food dish we both got were delicious! Don't get me wrong, but I know I can get the same dish somewhere else that comes with rice.
So, we gave Supon's Thai Kitchen a thumbs down...2 1/2 stars for the dish and Thai Tea and wishing that Lemon Grass would resurface!
