I have been coming to Speak-EZ's BBQ for years and I absolutely love this place. The food is made from scratch the wait-staff makes a sincere effort to get to know their customers on a personal level and I have never been disappointed by the service. As far as the prices go, you get what you pay for in my opinion. I want high quality, good tasting food and I am willing to pay the cost for it. If I want a cheap and less flavorful meal without atmosphere, I go somewhere else.

I went in for a "all you can eat BBQ." I was in a medium sized party of 8-10 people so I expected to wait a little while. We didn't get to order for about an hour. Then it took at least another 45 minutes to get my food. It was small and wrong. Several of us received the wrong order but didn't want to wait anymore so ate it anyway. When asked if we wanted more, of course we did. It took another hour AT LEAST to get the refill, and again the orders were wrong. We were there for over three hours, got two plates of food. It cost over $20 a plate and was not even very good. Worst service I've ever had!! Food was WAY over priced. Will not go back.

Ah, bad...Thanks a bunch for the heads up.

I've been eating at Speak EZs for several years. The food is delicious ... especially the pulled pork and collard greens. Service is good ... very attentive, pleasant.

Speal EZ Worst BBQ I've ever had!

Having never been there, a few days I decided to try Speak EZ BBQ. Went there for lunch and ordered a sampler plate with ribs and brisket for $12.99. Seemed steep for lunch, but I figured that I'd get a half rack of ribs, some big slices of brisket and some sides.

Nope.

When the tiny plate arrived it had two small ribs and a small pile of brisket chopped into 1/2 inch cubes. There was also a small amount of cole slaw. The ribs were fatty and had that reheated-and-not-very-tasty thing going. The brisket was grey, watery, tough and virtually tasteless. Watery? How does brisket get watery? The cole slaw turned out to be the best thing on the plate. Maybe I got last week's leftovers by mistake?

All I know is that I will never, ever, go there again and that I will commit the rest of my life to protecting other innocent people from this place. I know good BBQ. I make good BBQ I LOVE good BBQ. The stuff that Speak EZ BBQ served me was the worst BBQ I've ever had. EVER. It would've been overpriced if they had been giving it away.

Every night since, my dreams have been full of that lunchtime horror.

Oh my! No nightmares, please! Think "happy thoughts!"

BEST BBQ!!!!

I absolutely LOVED Speak EZ's! I had always passed it on Meridian and I finally went in to try it out. I am originally from New Orleans, so I have had my fair share of Creole and BBQ meals. This was the closest thing I have had since. I was with three friends so we all got different plates to share. I had the pulled pork... FANTASTIC! But I also tried the ribs and the chicken. They were excellent as well. Tender, Juicy, really cooked well. Those who have written bad reviews must be missing their taste buds because this food was great, and the service was great too; very friendly staff. My cup was never empty and he chef even came out to say hi to everyone.

HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS RESTAURANT!

Thanks for sharing your dining experience at Speak EZ restaurant in Bellingham. I'm sure most rest's have their goods days and bad days. A lot depends on the help; full staff, short staff. Still haven't been there, personally....yet. I am curious! Thanks again!

THE BEST BUSCUITS EVER

Their cornmeal biscuits (with bits of jalapeno peppers baked into them) with honey butter, are best I've ever had, bar none.

Best BBQ west of the Mississippi

We have been going to Speak E-Z's for about 4 years now. I don't know what those people have to complain about. The servers are very friendly, helpful and attentive. The food is always good, and I have been there for the All you can eat ribs with my friends several times. First of all, the plates do not cost over $20, and how can the plates come out wrong since it's always the same with the All you can eat ribs. Maybe you all ate somewhere else.

We got to know Dennis, the owner, a bit. He comes from Memphis and takes a lot of pride in his cooking and smoking.
Anyway, the food is good, tasty and not boring, the BBQ sauce is the best, the prices are reasonable, service is good, (lot better than in a lot of other places we have been) and you all should try it and don't get side tracked by someone who has a gripe for whatever reason.

I have been eating at Speak EZ's since opening night. I average at least a couple times a month. I have also had most everything on the menu and know the owners (Dennis and Rosie) on "some" level.
First to explain why I eat there. The food is generally good. I like the seating, (at least where I always sit) there is not too much to pick from for BBQ in Bellingham, and most importantly convenience. I live nearby and can walk.
Sometimes I'm happy, sometimes not. Today I was very disappointed. I ordered a Chef "smoked chicken" Salad, ice tea and a cup of "daily" soup. There were only two of us in the whole restaurant and I waited probably 20 minutes. The waitress then brought out the soup and salad together. The salad was $16.95 and was, as usual, very unimpressive. The soup was way too spicy for me so I didn't eat any of it. (Cup of soup is $4.99) The ice tea was drained immediately and never refilled. Just before I left I was offered more and declined.
I wish the waitress would have asked how the food was, but it seems when they see that you're unhappy they never ask why at Speak EZ's. I've seen it many times with different people.
I sat with an empty ice tea for the entire time I was in the restaurant.
I always eat out. I don't cook, so I enjoy trying different restaurants. I have never been to a joint that moves through staff as fast as Speak EZ's. I don't know why someone here says the staff make a attempt at learning about you? With one exception (Valentina) no one EVER works at Speak EZ's very long,(at least as a server).
The spicy soup I didn't eat was just whisked away at the end of the meal. I was never asked if there was a problem, although I was also certainly charged for the soup.
The salad was OK. I should have known better but I forgot. It's OK until you realize you're paying $17.00 for a pile of lettuce. There's really not much too it, especially when they forget to put what's on the menu on the salad. The smoked grilled chicken breast isn't sliced off an "on bone" chicken but a boneless breast that is (MAYBE) 4 oz. The "juicy" tiny boneless breast was gone in two bites. (So, perhaps, I take big bites...)
Their sides are all delicious. The brisket and shredded pork is pretty good, Ice tea is good when you can get it, prices are really high for the quality and portions, (not across the board), and the staff is hit and miss. Dennis is generally not in a good mood, and Rosie is friendly and pleasant. Valentina speaks so quietly you can't understand her.
Overall I give it 3 stars and will continue to eat there unless a better place opens up nearby. We'll see!
P.S. Try their BBQ sauce, stupid name, but pretty good! Slogan is "so good it should be illegal" please! how dumb.

Get a clue - this is great food

Well, I'v been reading the comments and must say I'm quite surprised. Granted, I have not been going to Speaks Ezs for long now, but the prices are good, portions are ample and taste is right on. This time my wife and I shared the smoked plate for two (24.99 and on the menu as advertised big enough for two), my son had a huge smoked burger (9.50 or so) again, my friend had a large Ribeye (18.99) and his wife the BBQ Spaghetti (12.99)which came with a fresh mixed green salad. We all had left overs, even the plate my wife and I shared. Granted, we started out with fried Okra (5.99) and hot wings plus a sampler appetizer(8.99 each) between the five of us. I also had a cup of daily soup (3.99) which was a very tasty creamy mushroom and smoked chicken soup. Each meal came with 2 sides which were also very tasty and that great corn bread.
The service was also very good. The servers were knowledgable about food and wine and attentive throughout the meal. We we were talking to a couple of them, they are students, just here until they graduate. The owner came out later and checked on everyone to make sure everything was alright. Maybe all those people who complain should open up a place themselves. Sounds more like they have a personal agenda. Maybe they should say something to the owner rather than hiding here without a name.

WE LOVE SPEAK EZ'S!! WE LOVE TO GO THERE AND ORDER TO GO, EVERYONE IS VERY FRIENDLY.PORTIONS ARE LARGE. BEST BBQ SAUCE,,ONE OF OUR MOST FAVORITE PLACES IN BELLINGHAM TO EAT OUT!! THANKS GUYS FOR ALL YOUR HARD WORK AND GOOD FOOD!
