Plane Down Bellingham to Skagit Valley

(Bellingham, WA USA)

A small plane flying from Bellingham International Airport crashed Sunday night in Skagit County according to KGMI Local News.

The Cessna 172 went down in the Samish Flats area.

Eric Ericksen was driving in the area shortly after the crash.

"We were heading down Samish Island Road, heading westbound. Here we come up, we see in the distance some people standing around something in the ditch, and I said," 'Hey, that's an airplane,' said Ericksen.

The pilot's name has not been released, but he reportedly was taken to a hospital, treated and released.

"The plane was pretty well intact, believe it or not, but it really hit the ditch pretty hard," Ericksen said.

No one else was on board, and nobody on the ground was hurt.

The FAA and NTSB are investigating.

The plane was headed to Bayview Airport in Skagit County.
