On Rice Bellingham, WA

I took my daughter to On Rice yesterday. She is up here from Colorado and we were out shopping for the holiday. I was excited
to take her (just us, mother, daughter) to our favorite Asian restaurant!

We got there and of course as usual, was greeted with friendly people and taken to our table. All was well...

My daughter looked over the menu and made her decision. I knew what I wanted...She ordered the Pad Crystal (her name is
Crystal..perhaps that helped make her decision? I don't know..) she just don't like hot and spicy very well so she ordered her dish as only a 1 meaning mild. I ordered the Thai Pad, and I usually order it "Jeeeeshh!" for "I like it hot!" and an order of fresh rolls for us to share.
She lives in the mid-west where "Asian" is basically "Chinese" not much Thai and there is a BIG difference.

They brought us some soup. It was real good. It was kind of an egg drop soup with tofu and a hint of lemon grass. It was her
first taste of tofu. Not too bad, she said.

Our waitress brought out our fresh rolls and the first disappointment I have encountered there in the many times I have
dined at On Rice occurred. The dishes were dirty, but the waitress quickly picked them up and apologized, even though the plate left gooey stuff on the table and didn't bring a rag to clean it up!?
Our main course came and I savored every bite of my dish! But Crystals dish was way too spicy for her to enjoy. She did tell
her she didn't like it spicy. She liked the flavor but was too
spicy. They didn't offer to make it right with her. I was a bit disappointed and embarrassed. I also notice we waited an unusual long time for our check.

However, all this didn't stop my daughter from buying a gift certificate there for her brother and his wife for Christmas.
So I guess my review would still give the restaurant 2 thumbs up,
but the waitress 1 thumb down.

I've dined at On Rice so many times. This was the first and only time I could give a semi-bad review.
