Drug Bust in Bellingham, Wa

by Bev
(B'ham, WA USA)

This drug bust in Bellingham, Wa news story is encouraging! I don't know about anyone else, but it gets hard and harder to see, especially, our young people getting messed up on drugs! It's such a waste of valuable life.
As much as I love Belligham and know it's a great place to live, the drug abuse of our younger generation is without a doubt and obvious on the corners of Railroad and Holly St. It is a big problem.
Hopefully this drug bust will lessen the supply around here.
I hope the busts will continue till there is no supply at all and we can get our younger generations back into a more healthy focus on life.

Drug Problems
by: Anonymous

As a former drug addict, I, too, am heavy hearted with the drug problem, not only in Bellingham, but in this whole nation!
I remember when I was using, at the end, (probably a good thing) "supply" seemed hard to come by. These days, it seems as though there is a never ending supply...everywhere! Not that I am using, because I don't, but a former addict knows a present user.
I will never forget one night out heading to dinner with my husband to celebrate our anniversary, going to our favorite "anniversary restaurant!" We were all dressed up and feeling great and relaxed, excited to dine once again at our yearly place to dine for this once a year special occassion.
We were almost to where we were going, maybe 4 or 5 blocks from downtown Bellingham and we came upon a saddening scene.
A young man was pacing back and forth in the parking lot he was in. He had a very confused and disorientated look. He had paint covered clear up past his elbows and half of his face...my heart sank...
All I could think about was this young man...what will his future be? I really wanted my husband to turn around so I could approach him...he wouldn't.
Don't get me wrong...he of all people is not cold hearted to hurting people, especially drug addicts. We both have "been there done that." He tried to convince me that it really isn't "our" problem no more. We have to let him go and hopefully he will get help.
Just a couple years later now, our own son, our youngest, is sent to prison for selling drugs...I could really write a book on how drugs has effected my life personally and lives very close to me. Drugs are no good. Period.
My biggest question and concern is...How come drugs are so dog-gone easy to get? Why isn't there MORE drug busts? I honestly believe if there is less supply...I really hope some day, not only in Bellingham, but across our nation, we can really pull as one and really have an effective "war against drugs." Because now it's just a slogan.

drug busts are a political travesty
by: Anonymous

I too am one who could write a book about how drugs can ruin lives, families, and communities. But I could also add that I have personally witnessed the joke some of these drug busts are.In no way do I support any type of drug use. The departments that are involved from the local law enforcement, and all federal agencies, prosecutors, and even judges, have shown time and time again, that they are alot of hype, media pimping,self-promoting,pompus asses.I'm sure there are good people fighting the fight, but in general"they" still let the big guys go free and make a big deal out of busting the "smaller players".The drug policies need drastic change. The "ba-jillions" of dollars spent to prosecute and incarcerate drug offenders is a mockery of our justice system. If taxpayers really knew how much it costs them to keep people in prison they would be appalled. The "time doesn't fit the crime".And when they come out of prison, they have not been rehabilitated in any way and that is why there seems to be a revolving door with drug involvement. The real criminals that concern me living in our community are the ones that should be removed from society: the child molesters/killers,wife beaters/murderers,sex-offenders by the hundreds living right in our neighborhoods! Nobody seems to be spying on them, tracking them down, prosecuting them to the fullest extent of the law. They get shorter sentences when/if they are prosecuted than drug dealers/users.Go figure. I'm just sayin.....

I agree. Prison is not the place for drug addicts. I won't even get started about my feelings about that, as it is all too personal.
I've seen way too many potential good people, young and old, waste their lives in the deep dark pit of drugs. It's a shame that we now seem to turn our backs on a decent good intention to fight against drugs in the name of "oh well, if they're gonna use they're gonna use. It's their bodies they can do what they want..." and like BS!
I'm totally convinced we can do more and we can help addicts beat their addictions. The best way to start is to get the big guys.
