Different Types of Dancing In Bellingham, Washington

Hip-hop originated in New York City among young Hispanic and African-American men during the late 1960s as part of the hip-hop culture of rap, scratch music, and graffiti art. The art is always changing but it does essentially embrace the two styles of breaking and body popping.

The former is an athletic solo form in which the performer enters the arena in a sideways motion then dives or breaks to the floor, spins around on his head, shoulders, or buttocks and ends in a freeze position.

Body popping involves a series of fast, sharp actions that travel through the body in a robotic-looking alternation of move and freeze. The dance and its music has become internationally popular since the late 1970's and are often incorporated into the theatre.

Ballet- Imagine your legs rotated, from your hips to the tips of your toes, heels touching, to form an angle of 180 degrees.

Every muscle, from the waist down, is contracted. Your buttocks are tight and scooped inwards and under. Your stomach is concave, muscles rippling. You have taken a breath so deep that your waist is floating; your ribs a mile from your hips.

Your shoulders press down on your rigid spine. Your head floats on its elongated neck. Gently curved arms flow down to precisely positioned fingers.

Every position places exacting, apparently, unreal demands on the body. Demands that can, from the best performers, elicit movements of unimaginable agility, virtuosity, and beauty.

Two-Step A two-step consists of two steps in approximately the same direction onto the same foot, separated by a closing step with the other foot.

For example, a right two-step forward is a forward step onto the right foot, a closing step with the left foot, and a forward step onto the right foot. The closing step may be done directly beside the other foot, or obliquely beside, or even crossed, as long as the closing foot does not go past the other foot.

Jitterbug is a strenuous dance performed to quick-tempo swing or jazz music and consisting of various two-step patterns embellished with twirls and sometimes acrobatic maneuvers.

Salsa was originally coined for the purpose of marketing Latin American music. The movements and their music achieved international popularity during the 1980s and 1990s. Cuban salsa is characterized by fluid turns, Colombian is more static but specializes in more intricate footwork.

The Twist was a rock and roll move that was popular in the early 1960's and named after the song that originated it. It was the first major international rock and roll style in which the couples did not have to touch each other while performing it.
