Burger Me Bellingham

You know, I haven't had a good burger since I moved here 5 years ago. Bob's Burgers on Railroad comes closest, but it only rings a 7 on my 1 to 10 all-time list.
Leaving out the unique-one-off Burger joints I've experienced around this wide country, Bellingham... (strike that) ... the entire Pacific Northwest just doesn't seem to offer a burger that makes me go - MMMMMmmmmm!
Boomer's Drive-In is pretty good, for what it offers. It makes me think of a fresher, better McDonalds burger. I'll give it a 5 m's on the MMMMMmmmmm scale.
Now lets focus on Burger Me. I drive past Burger Me on my way home everyday. I have never seen a car parked in the lot. Never.
I pulled in Monday evening just to see if it was even operating. It was and I decided to risk it. Sometimes the lowest number on the Health Certificate is where you find the tastiest food.
In the drive thru, I got a double Burger Me with cheese and fries - your typical #1 or #3 at most places. I watched as a very attractive girl shoved whole, peeled potatoes into a cutter to make the fries. "I wish they'd leave the skins on", I heard from my inner voice.
The Blackberry shake tasted like it was maybe real ice cream (vanilla) with a spoon or two of blackberry jam mixed in. It was on the runny side, somewhere between soft-serve and a shake you've left on the kitchen counter for an hour.
The thin, home-style fries showed promise. But the fries left me still wishing for skins. They were cooked properly, with a crisp exterior, but still had some potato texture inside. Additional salt would have made them even better, but the amount is what I've come to expect in the health conscious PNW.
Now to the burger. Small. Dry. Burnt, but not in a good, tasty way. More like the burnt we all saw after the mad cow scare and every restaurant in America partially cremated all beef down to a black slab of charred leather. Remember those steaks? You'd have been better off with boot leather.
The veggies were there, but the char overpowered everything. I've had better burgers at the high school football concession stands.
On my 1-10 Burger scale where genuine Texas armadillo burgers is a delightful 1, Burger Me rates a 4. Edible, no gastric regrets, but at a 3 rating, Burger King beats it hands down. Not a great score.
Thanks for your great review on Burger Me. My adult kids love the place. I just never got past the name to get myself in the doors!?! I think "I" actually make the best burger in Bellingham on my home grill...10 "Mmmm-grilling" at home! Bob's, still winning this one for the best burger around town! Again, Thanks for your review, TC!
