Big Rock Garden

Bellingham, Washington

I have known about Bellingham's Big Rock Garden for years...just didn't get there till recently. I'm giving you a "sneak preview" you really have to go and see it to really appreciate it!

First of all, it is located off of Alabama on Sylvan, the address is 2900 Sylvan. It's half way up the hill from the lake or half way down the hill after the walk-over on Alabama. You'll see the sign on the left! You can go ahead and drive up the narrow road. There is parking for the garden viewers up there, (bathrooms, too!)

The garden is just a beautiful botanical garden with Japanese maple trees and rhododendrons and fir trees hovering all over. In the Big Rock Garden nestled in the beauty of nature are sculptures throughout the garden with a peaceful fountain and a pond.

The sculpture above is "Lives In The Balance" by Michael Jacobsen, who is a local artist in Bellingham.

The horse sculpture above is called, "Intuition Free." The artist, Ann Morris is from Lummi Island. It is a beautiful bronze sculpture embeded in the garden.

"The Three Musicians" really caught my eye! It's was a fun sculpture to observe in the Big Rock Garden! It's artist is CA Scott, who, I believe, is local as well!

Above, "Endangered Species" by Schmerholz, a Hungarian artist, really impressed my husband and I. A garden of faces in the midst of a garden!

Below, this face was the one that really looked life-like! The stone used by the artist couldn't have been picked out more perfectly! It just looks so real! Awesome job!

See The Big Rock Garden Slide Show!

I hope you have enjoyed the slide show! I honestly don't think the pictures I took do justice for actually going and checking it out in person.

For more information about this beautiful garden, here, in Bellingham, WA, Check out Sculpture.org!

My daughter-in-law and my son love to come to the garden to see "what's new"! Rumor has it that some of these are for sale, so they come and go and others come in. So I plan to get up there more often! It is truely a great place to check out if you are in Bellingham, WA!

While you are at it you need to check out Bellingham's museums as well!

The art galleries are a "must see" in Bellingham, too!
