Bellinghams Museums and Exhibits
Bellinghams museums have a wide variety exhibits, of history, collections of inspiration, archive material, photographs and artifacts for public education and enjoyment.
Most of them offer programs of knowledge and insight, others offer hands-on activities for a wide range of audiences; from adults to capturing the attention of young children.
There are many different exhibits to choose from such as, fine arts, applied arts, archaeology, history and science.
Art from local, regional, and nationally inspired artists contribute to these displays.
Here in Bellingham we have a little bit of everything. As you visit Bellinghams museums, the mystery and history will leave you in wonder of our eloquent little city, perhaps a bit jealous and yet, appreciative of such talent from the artists!
I hope you have the time to explore all of Bellinghams museums! And visit
the Bellinghams art galleries page, as well!
Whatcom Museum Of History and Art
This is jointly operated by the City of Bellingham and the Whatcom Museum Society as a non-profit organization and is nationally accredited by the American Association of Museums. It is composed of four buildings located near downtown.
The most prestigeous of all of Bellinghams museums, the 1892 Old City Hall building now houses decades and decades of history and periodically features exhibits from local, national and internationally recognized artists....past and present.
Their hours are Tuesdays thru Sundays from noon to 5p.m. and the admission is free!
This museum was a "must see" for me! After moving up here it really helped me to understand the past of Bellingham...I was and still am so intrigued!

Whatcom Children's Museum
My granddaughter favors this of all of Bellinghams museums! It is a perfect place to take the "little ones" to get them out of the house and into a world of excitement and wonder! It will surely stimulate young imaginations, as well as the adults who accompany them.
This is a featured "hands on " experience for pre-schoolers to second graders to teach them in ways they will understand and never forget!
They have a pre-school program called "Treasure Chest" every Friday at 10:30 a.m. and "Wonder Workshops" every Saturday from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. (360)733-8769 or visit the above web site!
Syre Education Center
This was originally built in 1926 as the City of Bellingham fire department. It is open by appointment only for group tours and field trips.
The second floor of the building features a Photo Archive. Thousands of researchers from all over the world contact them each year requesting to purchase copies of images and photos from the collections. They use them for purposes of including them in books, on calendars, and many other uses!
The Photo Archives are seen, too, by appointment only. They are located at 201 Prospect Street.

Heritage Flight Museum
From what I have gathered this is one of the newest of all the Bellingham museums. A flying aircraft exhibit that is located at the International Airport, (imagine that!)
They are currently developing and promoting a permanent home here to showcase military aircraft and display aviation restoration projects, models and memorabilia as well as give historical presentations and educate the public and students.
They host an open house every third Saturday of the month from noon till 4 p.m.

Mindport Exhibits
This exhibits fine art, a visual art considered to have been created primarily for aesthetic purposes and judged for its beauty and meaningfulness; more specifically, painting, sculpture, drawing, watercolor, graphics and architecture.
Mindport features interactive art that can be distinguished from generative art, electronic art, or immersive art in that it is a dialog between the piece and the participant; specifically, the participant has "agency" (the ability to act upon) the piece and is furthermore invited to do so in the context of the piece.
They are located at 210 West Holly and you can visit
Mindports web site here!
Their hours are Wednsday thru Friday from noon till 6 p.m., Saturdays from 10 a.m. till 5 p.m., and Sundays from noon till 4 p.m.
This really is a "must see!" The admission is only $2.
You'll also want to visit
