Bellingham Business Leaders "Locked Up" For Good!

by Ali McQuain
(Seattle, WA, US)

BELLINGHAM, WASH., July 27, 2010 – The Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA) has gathered more than 100 of the area’s “Most Wanted” business executives and community leaders to participate in its 10th annual Telethon Executive Lock-Up at Boundary Bay Brewery on Thursday, August 5 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Participants, or “Jailbirds”, will be “arrested” by Bellingham Fire Fighters and taken to serve their time at MDA’s maximum appreciation jail site. Upon arrival, Jailbirds will have a mug-shot taken and will raise their “bail”, set at $1,800, by making calls from jail to friends, family and business associates. Jailbirds that raise their full bail will be featured during KCPQ 13’s local broadcast of the Jerry Lewis Labor Day Telethon on September 6.

MDA hopes to raise $60,000 during the Lock-Up, and all proceeds from the event will help support MDA services and research programs, including MDA Summer Camp, support groups, and local clinics.
MDA is the nonprofit health agency dedicated to curing muscular dystrophy, ALS (Lou Gehrig’s disease) and related diseases by funding worldwide research. The Association also provides comprehensive health care and support services, advocacy and education. The majority of contributions to MDA come from individual donors. MDA maintains clinics for area adults and children affected by neuromuscular diseases at Children’s Hospital Medical Center and the University of Washington Medical Center.
