We, at Bellingham Alternative Library, are a lending-library and education cooperative. As a co-op, we are member coordinated & curated. Our books are chosen from a member-built request list.
We have a collection of over 3000 books- including comics, graphic novels, magazines & art books. We specialize in experimental fiction & non-fiction, independently published materials & local authors and artists.
Our center is open everyday for everyone and especially encourages those who are looking for an alternative to traditional education. We warmly welcome those with less traditional education- including those people who are poor, poorly educated, young, homeless, disabled or elderly. We have stimulating reading, arts, & discussion spaces. Our aim is to provide a center for intellectual and artistic growth and a community space for diverse members of Bellingham, WA to connect through their ideas and imaginations.
Bellingham Alternative Library is located at 717 N. Forest Street, Bellingham, WA 98225.

The alternative library smells like mold, is not open during all of the advertised hours, and could use a good cleaning. Everything is haphazard and it is not a cooperative. It is owned by one person, and does not have non profit status. Good idea, lousy execution.

The library is awesome! I can't even believe something like this exists. I'm so happy to live nearby and be able to find such awesome books and great people. Future Man is the best!

Dear Folks,
You appear to once again have an occupant...living in a van behind your house. I kindly suggest, let this gal have a room or somethin!! What the hell, it's depressingly sad and makes me wonder if you are just oblivious/mostly uncaring people.
Please help before our hearts break - she's livin in a van behind your place!! But the dumping of green loads upon westerly neighbor's property further suggests passive agressive, mostly uncaring folk. For shame, do better for all. We're impacted negatively by the unkindness which is apparently yours.
Caring is Humane. How about it.
