Average gas price hits $4 a gallon in Bellingham, WA

by Bev
(B'ham, WA USA)

It never ceases to amaze me the prices of gas keeps going up and up around Bellingham, WA.
Yesterday I was out running my son around town and noticed that I needed to gas up. I stopped out on Meridian (couldn't go much further) at the Shell station. My son pumped the gas for me, so I really realise what I was saying when I told him to fill it up!
He was blown away and almost embarrassed when he told me it took just change short of $60 to fill my small SUV.
It really is dumb-founding when you know there are major refineries in our midst. My husband works with them...so the "fresh gas" theory is just that. There really is no honest reason why our people are paying so much in gas around here.
Today I noticed that the 76 on Ohio was at a whooping $4.15 a gallon at 7 am.
Seems it always does get higher during summer months, but hitting $4 a gallon for a 87 octane is ridiculous!
Pain at the pump...

Yesterday I commented the price of $4.15 a gallon at the 76 on Ohio. This morning I noticed it was $4.19...
Now watch, it'll start raining in a day or two and the prices will go down. I got them all figured out!

Today my husband and I were down in Fairhaven (south Bellingham) checking out the annual Ski to Sea Celebration and festivities.
We noticed down there, too, the gas prices were at $4.19. The highest octane price was 4.43.
It's just rediculous! But I guess it's like any other business...if you can rack up the price and people still pay it because of high demand, why not!?
On the other hand, if the reason behind the high prices is to keep people from driving, I really don't think it will work.
There was a float at the Grand Parade yesterday that had a car and 2 people sitting in it with a horse pushing the car. The message was "Transportion...Past, Present, and Future."
Not only do I find that offensive (poor horse!) but I also found that totally unreasonable!
So everyone is suppose to "get the vision" and go buy a horse and have the horse push my car around? Oh...ok! Guess we'll all be late for work, exhaust our horses by carrying food and supplies around...I just don't see that happening. Bad float! Bad gas prices! Bad excuses!
I think there needs to be a deeper and more thorough investigation into the gas prices around here.

I have read comments of other folks around town about it being "the Canadians fault" that Bellingham's gas prices are so high.
This never made any sense to me. Now that I been driving my son to work up by Birch Bay every day those theories are even more false to me.
I get off on the Birch Bay exit and the AM-PM station is always much lower than we find around Bellingham.
For the last week you can fill up your tank there for $3.81 a gallon.
Now if I were a Canadian and coming to Bellingham, I would definitely stop there before coming into town. I bet they do.
Anyway...the 76 on Ohio has been hanging on to the $4.19...ugh!

Last evening on the KING5 news they reported about Bellingham's gas prices being around $4.15 ( I think they said). I don't know where they get the high estimate of gas price information around here.
I been keeping my eye on the 76 station on Ohio street. It's just off the I-5 exit along with 3 other stations here...Chevron, Velero, and Shell. These 3 are at $4.25 this morning and the 76 is at $4.29 a gallon!
Up on exit 266, the gas is still below $4. Seems the prices are lower north and south of Bellingham, WA.
I talk to people from all over the world. They report that our gas is cheap according to what they pay. So much for a liter that equals around $10 American per gallon...

While taking our son to work last evening I noticed the gas prices here in Bellingham, WA keep getting higher and higher.
The ones down around Ohio are at a whooping $4.29 and the 76 station hit $4.31.
The AM/PM out at exit 266 had, too, gone up, but it's still below $4...$3.91.
I have noticed even I have slowed my speed down on the freeway while driving to 266. I have always been one to keep up with the legal speed limit, maybe a bit over. But lately I been keeping it down around 60-65 with my cruise control on and not caring if the other cars are going faster or not. It seems like there are a lot of us slowing it down.
Someone had commented in the Bellingham Herald about why they don't lower the legal speed limit to help in keeping it down...As a lover of fast cars, I surprisingly am agreeing with the possibility of doing that. The gas prices are just way too out of hand!

Ya, I noticed at the Ohio intersection this week, the stations I have been keeping an eye on, were all around $4.35 this weekend. One of them, the Valero, was at $4.31...
The station out on exit 266 AM/PM was at $4.03. So they are up over the $4 mark now, too...
What will it be next weekend? Seems to always go up 5-10 cents just before the weekends.
I also noticed that all the headlines for Bellingham's averages are off 5-10 cents. They must be a week behind in their reporting...
